Three days in Nisyros
Our favorite villages, beaches and things to do in Nisyros
Nisyros is a compact island with short distances, typically no more than 15 kilometers. However, having your own private vehicle is highly recommended, as there are limited public transportation options and taxis available. If you don't bring your own vehicle, you can find a list of rental companies in the 'Useful Information' section for your convenience.
Mandraki
The central village of Nisyros with many options to explore.
Recomended Restaurants

- Mira Mare
- Liotridia
- Enallax
- Rythmos (if things take a wild turn)
- Don’t miss the opportunity to enjoy the local bakeries and of course make sure to try the local ‘psilokouloura’
- Also, grab the chance of a lifetime to savor the exquisite fresh ice cream from Piccolo, featuring flavors like pistachio and kaimaiki – absolute delights!
Emporios
Emporios is a picturesque preserved traditional village on the rim of the caldera situated at an altitude of about 400m, overlooking the Aegean Sea and Volcano. It was mostly abandoned and many houses are in ruins, but recently began to revive and turn into an alternative destination for artistic and sophisticated public (Melanopetra Boutique Apartments) .
Great location for an evening walk. Take the opportunity to enjoy traditional recipes:- Triantafyllos tavern
- Balkoni tavern
- Don’t forget to visit Aposperi, a beautiful all day bar to enjoy drinks and the views!
Nikia
The village of Nikia lies 14 km south of Nisyros, about 400m above sea level in the rim of the crater of the volcano. It is a lovely picturesque area, one of the few crowded settlements in the island. Nikia has an elliptic shape and offers amazing views over the caldera and the sea. The famous village square is paved with fine black pebbles (known in the local as hochlakia) which form a beautiful mosaic.
Pachia Ammos - Moulari - Oasi
The most iconic volcanic beaches of the Island
You can visit both beaches (Moulari – Pachia ammos) on the same trip as they are placed next to each other. Pachia ammos is one of the best beaches of the island, but you have to walk around 15 mins to cherish its’ fruits! Coming back from the beach, enjoy a cold beer at Oasi tavern located right by the sea.
Avlaki Beach
A perfect hidden spot with crystal clear blue water around some imposing ruins.
Please remember to bring your own supplies, as this beach is secluded and far from any distractions of civilization.
